How to install a Gateway

How to install a GoBright Gateway

There are three key steps to installing a Gateway:

    • Connect the Gateway
    • Configure a Gateway profile
    • Configure and pair a Gateway device

    Connect the Gateway

Power the Gateway by either using PoE, or the supplied AC power adapter. If the power adapter is used then a separate ethernet cable will be required to connect to the network. The Gateway takes between 3 - 5 minutes to fully boot up. The picture below shows a gateway fully booted and ready to be paired (one red, one green LED).

The Gateway needs DHCP (initially) and NTP (Network Time Protocol) synchronization to work. So before the Gateway can be activated or work at all, DHCP and NTP should work. Please review this article to configure these settings. For more information on the status lights of the Gateway download the Gateway Status document. Once set up, static IP addresses can be set if required via the Gateway administration portal.

    Configure a Gateway profile

The Gateway profile holds shared settings that can then be applied to all Gateways within the organisation. This relates to scheduled rebooting and pin code for use with the Gateway admin portal.

To create a profile, sign into the GoBright portal as an administrator. Navigate to Settings > Devices > Profiles, and create a new profile with the type 'Gateway'.

Configure and pair a Gateway device

In the GoBright portal, navigate to Settings > Devices > Gateways. Add a new gateway, set a unique name, location (such as floor or zone).

We recommend using 'Activation code' for authenticating the gateway with the GoBright portal. It is also possible to select 'Gateway Information' and manually enter the information found on the reverse of the gateway device.

If using the Activation code method, enter the IP address of the gateway into a web browser followed by :8080, i.e. 192.168.0.41:8080. This will present the admin login screen for the Gateway device. Log in using the pin code set in the Gateway profile, as created in the previous step.

In the gateway admin page, navigate to the 'Settings' tab and copy the Activation code found at the bottom of the page.

Paste the code into the 'Activation Code' box in the GoBright portal, and click Save. The Gateway should be activated within 1 minute.
